Our dog visitation program is especially beneficial to patients who benefit from the company of a furry friend.
Research shows that interaction with animals can provide a calming effect in alleviating pain, reducing stress and improving overall psychological state. Dogs can provide emotional support for patients in end of life care, contributing toward a better quality of life for the patients.
Through our dog visitation program, our trained hospice volunteers visit patient homes with their certified therapy dogs to offer companionship and emotional support. Visits are most helpful for:
- Situations of anxiety and depression
- Pediatric patients
- Patients who are animal lovers
The volunteer handler and dogs are placed as volunteer handler schedules allow and patient needs arise. Visits are scheduled based on patient need. Ask our staff member for more information.
